DAY BY DAY.

Trying to write in a planner during Covid-19 is purely depressing because of all the scratches through events that you had to cancel or (if you were smart,) a ton of eraser marks. Planners, “Type A’s,” and for lack of a better term: control freaks, are probably going bonkers with all this “not knowing.” I get it. Not being able to plan or even have an idea of what the next couple months of your life are going to look like is hard. I do not want to undermine the difficulty of this situation. If this happened a couple of years ago, I would have lost my absolute mind. But most importantly, I don't want to undermine what our powerful God can do and is doing right now, in this very DAY.
Before I moved to Austin, Texas I was what my family called a “worrywart.” Ya, that does NOT have a nice ring to it. I loved control, I was fearful, and I hated surprises.
Praise the Lord that He did a working in my heart and helped me become more “go~with~the~flow.” Also praise the Lord for my dad who told me I needed to become easy going as we headed on our adventure of moving. I still remember that car-ride-talk like it was yesterday.
I am not saying having a plan is a bad thing, but I am saying that pretending like you are in control or obsessing over wanting control is against what God is trying to show us. You don’t have to become a “whatever you want” kind of person when asked what you want to eat for dinner. However, I believe it is extremely beneficial to become a “whatever you want” kind of person when talking to God. My roommate Kam, showed me her devo a couple of days ago and the author gave a beautiful simile for our relationship with the Lord…
“We are the work of His fingers as well. Like the intricate weaving of a fine tapestry, carefully and skillfully crafted together, we are the work of His hands. We see only the back of the tapestry, with messy strings and pieces that don't make sense. But He sees the front and the beauty of the finished tapestry…We may not always understand what He is doing, but we can trust His skilled hand.” -The Daily Grace Co.
He knows. He sees. He understands. Even when you feel like your strings are all intertwined and messy, He can see the full, beautiful picture. During a time when planning is extremely hard to do and control is just not in our hands, I want to encourage y’all to remember whose hands are weaving our tapestry.
***With that being said, my goal is to try to live DAY BY DAY.
Matthew 6:35 “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
In a world that is built to plan the next 5 years of their lives, people have been challenged to take a step back and focus on today. Isn’t that pretty dang spectacular. We get to choose to make the most out of today, no matter where you are; your house for the last week before you move to college, your home that you aren’t allowed to leave because of quarantine rules, or your dorm room just waiting for a text from your coaches to see when practice will be (like me.) I encourage you to make the most out of today because only God knows what tomorrow will look like and “tomorrow will worry about itself.”
If you need a friend to talk to, I'm always here. Reach out. Ask questions. Seek Him. & try to live DAY BY DAY, knowing that your tapestry is in the most skilled hands!
With all my love, Delaney Dilfer :)
