SATISFIED?

Today, ask yourself a simple question. Are you satisfied?
To be satisfied, means that you are fully content and pleased with where you are at.
This doesn’t mean you don’t want to grow more, but it does mean you don’t have a longing for more.
If you said yes, ask yourself how long have you felt like this?
A day, a week, a couple of hours?
Many people go through waves of feeling satisfied. One day they wake up and feel great, and the very next day they are overwhelmed with sadness.
If you said no, ask yourself why?
What have you been filling your life with that is making you feel this way?
In my last post I said that “the world’s desires are going to fail you at some point. They always will disappoint.”
Today, I wanted to dedicate a whole blog post to this topic because I think we are drowning in worldly desires that will not fulfill us, and we desperately need our eyes to be opened to the truth.
You might be asking yourself, why is Delaney qualified to tell me what will and won't satisfy me? I want to reiterate that whatever I write comes from wiser people’s advice and from the Word of God, which is the Truth. I understand that I haven’t had a lot of life experience compared to some people, but I have been truly blessed to be surrounded with many people that are way wiser and more knowledgeable than myself.
Let me begin by asking you this: what can you fill yourself with now, that will last you/satisfy you all of your life?
Drinking and drugs only numb the pain of this world for a little while. And if you tried to make it last forever, you would end up killing yourself.
Sex, lust, and earthly passion have become disposable. It has lost its specialness and has become a way to hide from hurt. Trying to find some feeling of love and comfort, people go to one another only to get even more damaged.
Success, money, and achievement all fade. There will always be someone better than you, smarter than you, and more wealthy than you. The race to win at life is exhausting and unfulfilling.
Many artists talk about how none of that stuff fulfills them in their work. Or they say that it does, and then later realize that they are so wrong. Our generation is overcome with anxiety and depression. We need to begin to look at what we are feeding ourselves, so that we can understand why we are feeling this way. I think we can all agree that we live in a world full of hatred, jealousy, comparison, deceit, evil and sin. Take a look around. The people we idolize tell us that their life is not all as it seems. Singers who have money, fame, and anything they could ever want, say that something is still missing. Yet, we still compare our lives to them, we still covet what they have. Kylie Jenner was once the most followed person on instagram…for what? Girls compared themselves to her and boys lusted over her. We have fallen into the trap that says one day we will have it all and then finally will feel content and happy. WHO IS TELLING US THAT?
Why do we think that the world’s desires can fulfill us?
I hope that my words come across as urgent instead of judgmental. I understand that what the world has to offer can be tempting, but I also truly believe that it does not satisfy and I want to voice that to our generation. I know that not many kids will agree with me on this subject, but that isn’t going to stop me from trying to get them to ask questions.
If you truly want to feel satisfied, I beg you to try a different approach. Like I've said before, the only thing that will completely and utterly satisfy our souls is Jesus Christ. If you are skeptical, seek Him. If you do not believe me, try it for yourself. God isn’t a pill that numbs pain, He is our Father who comforts us in our pain with a peace that transcends all understanding. I pray that you examine your life and reconsider what you fill yourself with. Again, if you have questions or want to just have a conversation about this topic and about God, reach out!
